1-800-Hot-Nite Ratings & Reviews
Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews
Dennis Schwartz
Moving adolescent coming-of-age comedy.
Orca Sound
Carey-Ann Pawsey
The dialogue is also really bad. Painful at times. Plenty of moments in the film make no sense or are completely unrealistic.
About Boulder
Tim Brennan
While I'm okay with coming of ages movies, I like there to be a strong, hard kernel of honesty at the core of the story. Director Nick Richey seems to agree, and 1-800-HOT-NITE is a film that calmly gazes at kids who might be falling through the cracks.
Crooked Marquee
Josh Bell
Young carries the movie with a charismatic and empathetic performance as a kid forced to grow up too quickly, all at once.
Film Threat
Bobby LePire
1-800-Hot-Nite is surprisingly heartfelt and realistic. While it is not the comedic odyssey the opening suggests, don't let that deter you from checking it out. Thanks to the amazing cast and Richey's clear, distinct vision, it works on many levels.
Eye for Film
Jennie Kermode
Young makes a spirited lead, effortlessly conveying the emotional tumult of his character whilst giving him a sufficiently strong core that viewers of all ages will be able to relate to him.
Cinemalogue
Todd Jorgenson
Despite funneling its rambunctious energy into narrative detours and outrageous contrivances, the bittersweet film is bolstered by the authentic rapport of its expressive and charming young actors.
Deep Focus Review
Brian Eggert
There's some impressive nighttime cinematography by Nathan Presley that makes the movie stand out on a purely visual perspective, and many of the boys' performances suggest they have promising futures.
Midwest Film Journal
Nick Rogers
The film balances weariness and melancholy with wisdom, humor that is crisp & dark, and outstanding work from Dallas Dupree Young as Tommy, who comes to understand his window of opportunity is narrow, dirty and jagged. It's a connection you won't forget.
