Working in his Paris studio, Swiss artist, draughtsman and sculptor Alberto Giacometti accomplished great and unusual things. His life-sized figures are delicate, emaciated and otherworldly, almost as though their heavy pedestals were calling them back to the iron reality of the material world and keeping them from disappearing to some other sphere.
