A writer discovers that his girlfriend Sara has died on the very day of the presentation of his new book. Powerless in his grief, the man enters a nightmarish world in which he successively transforms into a Jew about to be executed by the Nazis; a medieval knight who ends up at a mill inhabited by a strange man and his wife; and finally, he communicates with Sara, who now "lives" in a different dimension, through a tape recorder.
