What happens when an artist steps into the academic world - and questions everything? For over 20 years, artistic research has grown within the walls of universities, but few outside have even heard of it. Performance artist Bogdan Szyber applied for a PhD position, but reacted to the academic system and decided to protest against what he saw as the lost soul of art in the bureaucracy of the research world. It all culminated in a live defense where he failed. Former film students who themselves explored artistic research portray Bogdan's journey, while we meet doctoral students and professors who challenge our ideas about what knowledge can be.
