After the death of his beloved wife and daughter, the outstanding opera singer Carlo Gandolfi, abruptly ended his career. This tragic loss sets Carlo adrift, he turns to the bottle, and seeks relief in alcohol. At this point, Death itself, decides that this is the moment for Carlo to once again become a great opera singer and desires him to perform Verdi's Macbeth and for it to be perfect. If his performance is not, Death will lead him into his kingdom.
