Culhwch was the son of a king in Wales. When his mother, the queen, died, his father remarried. The stepmother cast a terrible love spell on Culhwch: he will not know peace until he finds the beautiful Olwen, daughter of the giant Isbaddaden. The giant killed all those who sought the hand of his daughter, since he was predicted that he would die on her wedding day.
