Directed by Stéphane Bégoin, Thomas Marlier90m[Documentary](/on-demand/category/documentary)
In the 10th century, Caliph Abd al Rahman III decided to restore in Spain the power of his Umayyad ancestors who had reigned in the East a few centuries earlier. He ordered the construction of a colossal city to show everyone his power. The city's reputation and wealth spread from the West to the East. This refined civilization still permeates European culture today. Nicknamed the "Versailles of al-Andalus", Madinat al-Zahra is today considered one of the most important Islamic archaeological sites in the world. An excavation campaign led by a team of European archaeologists began five years ago on this World Heritage site.
