Maldoror Ratings & Reviews
Film Threat
Kent Hill
To the director Fabrice, his co-writer Domenico La Porta, the entire cast and crew, Maldoror is a picture that invokes memories of great filmmakers and their contributions to the genre, whilst staying culturally unique and period perfect.
The Contending
Frank J. Avella
Du Weiz packs a lot into this 155-minute nail-biter, yet I wish he'd given us a bit more since the film is quite confusing at times, especially in the second half. Bajon keeps us transifxed.
Eye for Film
Amber Wilkinson
Although this is set in the Nineties, the gritty feel makes it redolent of Seventies-set thrillers, a mood reinforced by the way that du Welz embeds us in Paul's life from the start.
Daily Dead
Rocco T. Thompson
Though the film is long, there's clammy pleasure and howling pathos in picking at its knotted narrative while watching Bajon's anti-hero slide measure-by-measure into a hell borne of his own obsession.
Guy at the Movies
Jeff Nelson
Maldoror speaks on a very unnerving side of humanity, but it doesn't go anywhere.
Next Best Picture
Matthew Turner
In short, this is a superbly-acted, small-town thriller that should appeal to fans of True Crime, even if the story itself has been significantly embellished.
In Review Online
Joshua Polanski
To call Maldoror a critique of the system is much like labeling a pork loin kosher - it's quite simply and egregiously false.
Sunshine State Cineplex
Alan French
Maldoror does not always communicate where the line is, and frankly, it should not. It's an ongoing dialogue between who we believe to be and the honest anger towards the world around us.
IONCINEMA.com
Nicholas Bell
Perhaps a bit more mainstream than might be expected from the distinctive human miseries usually employed by du Welz, Maldoror is an enjoyably meaty recuperation of an infamous scandal.
