Maria's Lovers Ratings & Reviews
Edge Media Network
Frank J. Avella
The filmmaker cast two very peculiar actors as his leads. That is not a negative. Savage and Kinski complement one another immensely. Both are very uncommon actors who are fascinating to watch. Together, they make for an idiosyncratic feast.
New York Times
Janet Maslin
Mr. Konchalovsky, who is capable of anything from sweeping emotional overstatement to attention-getting symbolism to Altmanesque clutter, has quite an eye for eccentric talent.
Santa Cruz Sentinel
J.A. Conner
Maria's Lovers is a far cry -- if not a large howl -- from the emotion-Laced mature study of blossoming sexuality it was meant to be, for this thing is just such a silly, goofy soap opera that few will be fooled into taking seriously.
TV Guide
TV Guide Staff
There are some remarkable scenes, but these are nearly outweighed by some heavy-handed symbolism and some deadly dull spots where the narrative seems to be in a holding pattern.
Apollo Guide
Ryan Cracknell
A solid-looking piece of erotic drama that focuses on what's going on below the surface (and below the belt).
