A peasant boy, Emelya, releases a pike he caught back into the river. The pike rewards him with the magical gift of granting all his wishes. Unbeknownst to him, Emelya falls in love with Princess Marya, who refuses to marry the foreign prince. The offended prince wages war against the kingdom.
