Solving crimes based on fingerprints, for the first time in history, was the work of a Croat. At the end of the 19th century, a Croatian emigrant in Argentina, Ivan Vucetic, solved a case of infanticide in a small provincial town near La Plata. Although without formal education, Vucetic also designed an identity card for all people in the world and proposed Interpol as a joint, international organization in the fight against crime.
