In Venice, renowned film actress Anna Zakharova meets artist Mario. Their encounter leaves a lasting impression on the young man—he falls in love. Upon returning to Russia, Anna faces setbacks: she's fired from a role and breaks up with her lover, a colleague. Desperate, the actress abandons everything and goes to Mario, who is dying of passion, but during a sea voyage, she falls in love with the ship's captain. Upon learning of this, Mario loses control of his car, crashes, and goes blind. Guilty Anna's only option is to marry him.
