A World War II-era story about an outlaw and those entangled with him. Michele Rende is a Calabrian legend, a fiery young man wrongfully convicted of murder. He flees to the mountains, where he earns fame by helping poor farmers occupy unused lands. The local boy Nino sees Michele as a hero, but when the outlaw falls in love with Nino's sister, their relationship ultimately leads to tragedy for everyone involved.
