Chôsaku Kuroki, who lives in downtown Tokyo, has been raising his two children, Issaku and Hanako, on his own since his wife passed away 15 years ago. But oblivious to Chôsaku's worries, Issaku, who is in his fifth year of failing to get into university, spends his days engrossed in band practice with his friends. One day, Issaku secretly takes an advance on Chôsaku's retirement allowance and uses it to prepare for his band's debut. At the same time, Chôsaku had decided to use his retirement allowance for Kumi, the bar owner for whom he secretly harbors feelings.
