Upscale sexploitationist Vadim was in way over his head with this allegory, whose increasing hamfistedness is only underlined by his cutting in real vintage newsreel footage. He never attempt to make such a serious statement again -- thank god.

While the film seems incredibly dated, it's of particular interest for fans of Girardot and Deneuve.

... the titillating title that Roger Vadim gave to his 1963 take on two Marquis de Sade stories, "Justine" and "Juliette," which he reframed as a morality play set in Nazi-occupied France.
