Alice Rémon, a saleswoman in a pharmacy, is a prostitute who managed to leave the streets by her marriage with a worker. Her husband dies one day, poisoned. Her mother-in-law, who hates her, accuses her of murder; all odds are against her and the investigating judge returns her to the Assize Court where she is sentenced to imprisonment.
