Melvin Howard Tormé, known professionally as Mel Tormé and nicknamed "The Velvet Fog," was an American musician, singer, composer, arranger, drummer, actor, and author. He composed the music for "The Christmas Song" and co-wrote the lyrics with Bob Wells.
