Virginia demands Alika (Lúcia) be expelled from the ball, and she reacts indignantly. Mirinho announces that she is his guest and asks her to dance. Virginia becomes furious. At the mill, Mundica laments not being able to go to the ball and dances with Ciço. Mirinho harasses Alika and grabs her by the arm. Tonho defends Alika. Mirinho shoves him and Tonho fights back. Mirinho falls to the ground. Everyone reacts. Fortunato arrests Tonho.
