Student Lyadov kills a fellow student. He came to demand a debt that Lyadov could not repay, a quarrel broke out and Lyadov shot him. Cops are sent to the murder scene. They are outraged, as they are busy with a more important matter, the search for a maniac named Vodyanoy, who got it for drowning girls. There are already five victims, and they don't have a single clue. But an order is an order, and he and Aksentyev are going to Lyadov. Along the way, Aksentyev, touching Usoltseva, learns that there will be an attempt on her life and warns about it, but the opera, not knowing about Aksentyev's abilities, does not attach importance to this. On the spot, they find out that they did not find the murder weapon, and Lyadov claims that he shot a fellow student right out of his finger. Usoltseva dismisses this version, but Derzhavin, an employee of the special services, arrives here, and after learning that Lyadov shot from his finger, takes him away. Usoltseva is shocked: does he really believe this? But Derzhavin doesn't want to hear anything. Aksentyev again warns Usoltseva that there will be an attempt on her life, but she again ignores his words. Then Aksentyev has to intervene: when he sees a bandit who shoots at her, he will push Usoltseva away and save her life. In a shootout, she barely manages to fight back. After that, she presses Aksentyev: how did he know that there would be an attempt? Aksentyev explains that when he touches, he sees what happened to people or what will happen. Usoltseva decides to test this on Lyadov: she does not believe in any finger and wants to find out what he actually fired from. Aksentyev comes into contact with him and finds out that Lyadov made a weapon out of a door lock: he took it off the door, shot it and returned it to its place. Usoltseva is shocked: if Aksentyev continues to help them, their disclosure will skyrocket. And most importantly, they will be able to find the Merman, who remains elusive.
