1975, Leningrad. A young girl, Olga Pshenichnaya, the niece of a famous TV presenter, is found murdered. An important piece of evidence is found at the crime scene - a surgical pencil case with a swastika and engraved "Hermann Schulz". KGB lieutenant colonel Andrey Eliseev from the special department for the search for war criminals is involved in the case. He is obsessed with his work and has devoted his entire life to finding fugitive Nazis and collaborators.
