Alice has made Xmas plans to take Tommy to her cousin's house in Colorado Springs. Relying on Mel's annual Xmas bonus, she is devastated when Mel announces no bonus due to inflation. When a regular diner bemoans having to spend Xmas driving his rig, Mel offers to do it for him. Soon the entire gang of Mel's embark on a fun filled and slightly perilous trip on the road.
