Along the Marmelos River, the team visits the old field of Chief João Sena to harvest corn for the traditional Tenharin festival. The Tenharin people continue to resist economic projects that destroy the forest and threaten their relatives who have chosen to live in isolation within the territory. Paleoecologists Paulo de Oliveira and Francis Mayle collect sediment cores from the bottom of nearby lakes to study how plant life has responded to climate changes around the Teotônio archaeological site.
