The Hyperion is invaded by a swarm of bug-like parasites that completely dehydrate anyone they infect, reducing them to powder. When one of the bugs takes refuge inside Fred it reveals that they are escaping from their own dimension through a rift, fleeing a threat known as "the Destroyer" that's been hunting both them and Angel. Desperate to save Fred, Gunn turns to the resentful Wesley for help.
