The defense of the fortress of Bayazet is one of the most striking episodes of the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-1878. 24 day 4-28 June 1877, a small Russian garrison under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Patsevich and captain Shtokvits, suffered from hunger and thirst, drowning in blood, but never giving the fortress to the enemy troops.
