A building labourer with a history of self harm followed by attempted suicide sets his sights on an attractive young woman. Kate's husband's condition gets worse and the family have a conference about what to do. Sam finds a puppy in a cardboard box and smuggles it into the department. A superb singer entertains the patients waiting for treatment but has a sad reward.
