A horrific incident confuses two plumbers who meet a man with a knife in his heart as he exits the basement of the house. Volkov and Tarabrin find out that there is no other way out of the basement, and a second body is found inside. Murdered jailbird thieves Kostya Kusok and Lesha Bulkin are old friends, and Volkov realizes that someone else was involved in their deaths. Through his informer, Tarabrin discovers that Kostya had a gambling debt to a famous crime lord, Nodar. However, neither the meeting with the widow of Kostya, Angela nor the meeting with Nodar's brother Niko, clarify the case. Staking out the basement, Tarabrin notices a young girl returning, but fails to detain her. In addition, it turns out that Angela is Niko's lover. Meanwhile, a sweeper working near the basement was found stabbed to death.
