Divorced Gary Chapman's heavily-pregnant second wife Heather, stepmother to Jason, is suspiciously badly beaten during a carjacking after a row with her former best friend Marcie Westerfield. Forensics and shamelessly abusive interrogation technique quickly lead to the car thieves, who prove to be linked with Marcie, as well as at least one Chapman.
