A merchant Ovchinnikov, who recently bought a house in Zatonsk with a bad reputation, asked Anna for help. Anna believes that there is no reason to worry about. She recommends him sleeping pills, but the next day the merchant is found dead in his bed. Stolman is seriously injured and in delirium he tells Anna what he wanted to hide.
