The “wolf salute” made by Turkish football player Merih Demiral at the 2024 European Championship drew attention to the far-right movement known as the Grey Wolves. These Turkish ultranationalists spread hatred and anti-democratic ideology in Germany.
They seek to indoctrinate children and young people in schools, cultural associations, and sports clubs, deliberately build contacts with local politicians, and maintain close ties to organized crime. Germany’s domestic intelligence service has been monitoring the Grey Wolves for years.
