Irina Novikova runs a private nursing home for the elderly. On the eve of her wedding, her fiancé leaves her, leaving her with debts and loans. Soon after, the nursing home is closed: its sponsors, the Antonov brothers, deem the project unprofitable. To recoup her losses, Irina takes a job as a caregiver to the head of the Antonov family, a capricious and ailing old man. Suddenly, he proposes to Irina, and the day after the wedding, he dies. Irina is accused of murder. After escaping pretrial detention thanks to the help of Antonov's eldest son, Maksim, she and he begin their own investigation. While Irina and Maksim unravel a tangled web of family secrets, feelings blossom between them. But the whole story turns out to be just part of a carefully orchestrated plan. It remains to be seen who is behind this game and why he started it all.
