Why do we live in a world of both joy and sorrow, love and hate, life and death? To know the answers to these seeming paradoxes we have to understand the history in Genesis. God created a perfect world in which suffering and death were absent. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, the punishment for their sin was death and all of creation was cursed.
Unlike the evolutionary worldview in which suffering and death are a “natural” part of the survival of the fittest, in a biblical worldview suffering and death are seen as intruders.
