The ranch's livestock are endangered by drought as well as a prowling cougar. Redigo awaits the arrival of engineer Chuck Pierce to find a solution to the problem. The engineer arrives, as well as his fiancee and her young son. The boy's hero worship of Redigo threatens Pierce's relationship with the boy's overprotective mother.
