Stefan is puzzled when a local forest exploiter refuses to sell a tract for a great price because it's 'not his to dispose of'. It turns out Marianne's late husband Franz's illegitimate son's education was paid from its proceeds, and now he's famous he wants to buy it. Stefan's brat daughter brought a 'stray' deer calf home, and returning it to the mother is problematic as the crucial scent has been wrecked.
