Pioneering the field of trash-TV, Geraldo Rivera managed to one-up fellow talk show hosts Phil Donahue and Oprah Winfrey by skipping over any socially relevant topics and going straight to sex, death and hate. In doing so, he paved the way for later sleaze hosts such as Jerry Springer.
