Heiko spends the night on the Hahnichs' farm. He shares the room with the servant Arne Blund, who only comes home late at night drunk. At breakfast, the farmer's wife persuades Heiko to stay even longer and help on the farm until her husband is healthy again. Elke comes back to the city with her father and moves into an apartment in the same house as Elisabeth Meinhart. Heiko does not have an easy life in the countryside. Arne hates the "city dweller" and lets him do the hardest work. Heiko befriends the farmer's mute daughter.
