Erik rotates between his jobs and hardly gets any sleep. To cheer him up, Toni buys him a scratch-off ticket, and sure enough, Erik wins. At last, his streak of bad luck seems to be over. But then Erik is overcome by microsleep while on guard duty. Laura considers whether she should accept Gerner's offer. Almost inclined to throw in the towel, defiance wells up inside her and she blows Gerner's cover in front of her mother.
