Jock Mahoney appears as Halsey Roland, a former Confederate Army major, who leads an army of his own on a campaign of plunder. Halsey Roland escapes from military confinement at Fort Scott, taking with him a number of U. S. Army uniforms. When he rejoins his men, he distributes the uniforms for use in a "war" on the civilian population of Arizona Territory. In a plan to recapture Roland, Captain Zachary Wingate ( Preston Foster), commandant at Fort Scott, assigns Cord, the gunslinger (Tony Young), to affiliate with the outlaw gang.
