Jeb, wanting to see something besides the farm, finds a horse grazing while out walking. He rides into Dodge and when he strikes up a friendship with Ab Singleton, sells it to him. When Ab is killed by a man who says the horse belonged to his partner, Jeb feels guilty for having caused his death and now must escape that partner who only believes he is a horse thief.
