Alain De Croes shoots a shop assistant during a failed robbery. When he flees he also shoots 16 year old Dennis Verdonck, because he thought the boy saw his license plate. The only witness is his friend, the 14 year old Nico Van Ham, who is deaf, so his interrogation is very difficult. The police demands help from Nadia Gillis-Barez, Nico's sign language interpreter and ex-teacher.
