When Hubert and Staller catch a shoplifter red-handed at the Niederhöfer furniture store, they quickly uncover a far more serious crime: Managing Director Bruno Niederhöfer is found dead in his office. And it quickly becomes clear: An insider was at work. The surveillance camera recordings have disappeared without a trace. Hubert and Staller are convinced that the perpetrator is a member of the staff. And there are quite a few of them in this large company. Staller's exhausting search for the suspect is made a little easier, however, as he repeatedly receives mysterious love messages. First, Corinna Pschorer, Niederhöfer's deputy, increasingly comes under suspicion of murder. If she wanted to climb to the top of the career ladder, she would have every reason to eliminate her boss. When Hubert and Staller discover that the victim was having an affair, his widow, Anna Niederhöfer, also comes under the investigators' scrutiny: Did she kill her husband out of jealousy? But the case takes a whole new turn when the clumsy colleague Riedl is accidentally locked in the furniture store overnight and witnesses a theft. That's when Hubert and Staller realize that the secret love messages have much more to do with the case than they previously suspected.
