The king decided to submit him to such a trial by what the king would get rid of him: the king made him hare-herder. With the help of an old woman, who came from "stars" and gave him a "magic pipe", the lad stood this trial as well. Indeed, through his wiles the lad outwitted the king and his daughter. Finally he gained the princess and the kingdom too.
