Leading LadiesThis month on In the Life, "Leading Ladies", hosted by Martina Navratilova. As a way of celebrating Women's History Month this March In the Life turns the spotlight on its archive with "Leading Ladies", to celebrate the lives and accomplishments of several extraordinary women. "An Artistic Rebel," Takes us to Paris, France in the early years of the Twentieth Century. You're about to meet an American ex-patriot painter -Romaine Brooks- who dared to be different. And today, almost a century later, her work continues to challenge our notions of female sexuality and identity. "Making Her Story" Tucked away in an old brownstone in Brooklyn, New York is a rare collection of once-forgotten lesbian histories. For the past 32 years the volunteer caretakers of this archive have gathered rich and colorful stories that celebrate the diverse lesbian community. "Lesbian Cartoon Artist" This story takes us to the Vermont countryside where an innovative cartoonist, Alison Bechdel lets her imagination run wild. Inspired by her own experiences as a lesbian, Bechdel creates a gallery of authentic and unforgettable characters. "Polar Pioneers" The stark, icy landscape of Antarctica has captured the imagination of explorers for hundreds of years. You're about to meet two remarkable women -Ann Bancroft and Liv Arnesen- who shatter the notion that women are too fragile to endure polar exploration. "The L Word" The first TV series to feature the stories of lesbian lives -"The L Word" - broke new ground and immediately developed a diverse audience when it premiered in January 2004. Two years ago, 'In the Life' went behind the scenes to meet its creator and talented ensemble of actors, who shatter stereotypes and boldly venture into uncharted territory. "Sehakia" It's rarely easy for those in the gay community to reconcile their sexuality with their religious beliefs. In "Sehakia" you will meet four lesbians of the Muslim faith who struggle to understand the contradictions between their sexuality and their religion.
