The phlegmatic and imperturbable operative Pyotr Kuvaldin is forced to train the undisciplined and reckless Klim Kukushkin. The operative is puzzled by this appointment, but he soon learns the real reason - it turns out that the trainee is the son of a businessman and philanthropist who partially sponsors the city police. Under threat of dismissal, Poytr takes the guy under his wing.
