The neighbors are trying to put out the fire in which Egor almost died. The district police officer begins to believe in Egor's innocence and tries to figure out who set the fire. At the same time, Viktor is trying to put pressure on the district police officer. Katya continues to insist that Egor is not to blame, and the real murderer committed the arson. Egor is trying to get a job, but almost everyone in the village works for Viktor. Katya persuades her father to take Egor to work at the school and provide him with housing. Vsevolod Sergeevich hires Egor, but asks him not to advertise it in the village. Egor tries to talk to Raisa and find out why she lied at the trial. Raisa contacts someone on the phone, informs them that Egor can find out the truth, and makes an appointment. Egor decides to follow Raisa, but gets hit on the head.
