1880-1900 Denmark has not always been a small, happy, rich country. And our prosperity did not come about by itself and must not be taken for granted. In this series, Liv Thomsen gives voice to Underdanmark, the other half, those who lived in the shadows, far from the hard floors and nice bourgeois homes. This time it's about Christian Christensen, who grew up in the so-called rhubarbland in Nørrebro in Copenhagen at the end of the 19th century. He was one of ten thousand immigrants in the capital who lived in unheard of inhumane conditions and who from a very young age had to help support a rapidly growing family.
