Master baker Martin Pohl is desperate. Although he handed over the EUR250,000 ransom for his wife, as demanded by the kidnappers, there's still no trace of her. Perhaps he should have called the police after all? Finn Kiesewetter and Lars Englen from the Lübeck Homicide Squad are already at his door with the difficult news: Ute Pohl is dead. Her body was found on the banks of the Trave River. David Loose, a male escort with whom the victim apparently had regular sex, becomes the focus of the investigators. However, the suspect denies any involvement in the crime, and an alibi seems to confirm his statement. A new lead leads the detectives to import and export entrepreneur Björn Nickel, but Finn and Lars only find his body. They also find an empty insulin vial, which was presumably injected into Ute Pohl. Did the diabetic woman die of an overdose? The signs of a struggle in Nickel's office suggest that he must have had an accomplice with whom he got into an argument after the crime. But when parts of the ransom money suddenly appear in Mia's friend Nico Hartmann's home, the case takes a whole new turn.
