A brutal robbery of an amber jewelry store in Scharbeutz: Because amber polisher Enno Claasen unexpectedly returns early from the beach, he surprises two burglars in the act and is critically injured by a gunshot. Finn Kiesewetter, Lars Englen, and their colleagues from the Lübeck Criminal Investigation Department investigate and shadow the traveling salesman Kai Ahrens, who has long been after Claasen's extremely valuable raw amber finds. The leads lead to strip club owner Bojan Vesic, who can look back on a remarkable criminal career but, according to official records, has been walking the path of virtue for several years. But despite overwhelming evidence, Finn and Lars' hands are tied. Public Prosecutor Dr. Hilke Zobel refuses to grant them permission to arrest the suspect. Apparently, she is acting on orders from the highest authorities. But what does Senior Public Prosecutor Dane have to do with the case?
