Despite the tightest security measures, the valuable Störtebeker necklace is stolen from the Hanseatic Museum in Lübeck. The security officer on duty, Stefan Pommerenke, is seriously wounded by a gunshot during the break-in. When the security company's project manager, Nadine Dorn, is unavailable the next day, Finn Kiesewetter and Lars Englen begin to investigate her surroundings. Nadine Dorn appears to be involved in the theft, but Finn cannot believe that Nadine, whom he knows from their police training, has become a thief. The museum's curator, Tjard Theißen, also comes under the investigators' scrutiny when Nadine turns to Finn for help. She demands to be placed in a witness protection program, as Theißen is being threatened by the Russian mafia - and stealing the necklace seemed the only way out. Finn and Lars have their doubts as to whether this is really the whole story.
