Velvet Brown lives on a dairy farm with her parents Martha and Herbert, her brother Donald, her sister Edwina, and ex-jockey Mi Taylor; Edwina has a boyfriend named Teddy. Velvet owns a beautiful horse, King, whom she hopes will run in the Grand National Steeplechase someday.

Marilyn is riding a beautiful white horse. Velvet wins and then falls off King because Marilyn raised the last jump. Mi gets his ring back. Marilyn and Velvet shake and make friends.

Johns mother tries to get King put to sleep for being mean. Helen sues the Brown's for $25,000.00. John runs away. John tells his mother he is tired of being treated like a baby. Helen drops the lawsuit.

Mi helps Velvet and Velvet's Dad is not happy. Mi is not doing his job on the farm. Mi tells Herbert to send King to a trainer. The trainer is cruel. King is beaten by the trainer. Velvet puts her coat on King and he accepts it.
