Every November, the Omaha Playhouse performs A Christmas Carol to sellout crowds. But what the audience doesn't see are the awkward, funny, strange and inspiring moments that happen long before the curtain opens. Philip Zach once toured the world, but after straining his vocal chords he sat in disbelief believing he'd never sing again. But, fate would grant him a second chance and his voice heals, he putting the final touches on a musical journey fueled, in part, by Kickstarter. Meet a group of women who face tough issues head-on. The Notre Dame Sisters of Omaha have made social justice their mission for 100 years. Their only goal is to keep on giving and to have a little fun while doing it. Nadine Racek knows her way around dough. So much so that she has been deemed the Kolache Queen by those who know her for her delicious Czech pastries. (She's baked as many as 1500 kolaches for one order.) As delicious as her koloches are, Nadine, herself, is much sweeter than her pastries could ever be.
